TAX FLIGHT DECK
Taxes are part of the route.
The goal is not to avoid every tax today. It is to control lifetime taxes while preserving flexibility across working years, retirement, Medicare, and legacy planning.
Build tax diversification.
Pre-tax accounts can reduce current taxable income. Roth accounts may create tax-free qualified withdrawals. Taxable brokerage accounts add liquidity and capital-gains treatment. One bucket is not a strategy.
Open briefing →RETIREMENT GAP YEARSWatch the conversion window.
The years after work ends but before Social Security, Medicare, and RMDs may create room for intentional Roth conversions. Conversions generally create taxable income in the year completed.
Open briefing →SOCIAL SECURITYKnow combined income.
Depending on filing status and combined income, up to 85% of benefits may be included in federal taxable income. That does not mean an 85% tax rate.
Open briefing →RMD YEARSForced income changes the panel.
Traditional retirement accounts can create required distributions later. RMDs generally cannot be converted to Roth, so planning starts before the first required year.
Open briefing →MEDICAREIncome can raise premiums.
IRMAA can increase Part B and Part D costs using modified adjusted gross income from two years earlier. A large conversion or gain can have a delayed cost.
Open briefing →HOMEOWNERSA deduction is not free money.
Mortgage interest and eligible property taxes matter only within applicable rules. A deduction reduces taxable income—not the purchase price, interest rate, or tax bill dollar for dollar.

Tax rules change. Verify current thresholds and eligibility with IRS, SSA, Medicare, and a qualified tax professional before acting.
